What is HypnoBirthing®
HypnoBirthing®, the Mongan Method, is a "holistic" approach to childbirth. It takes into account the psychological and emotional well-being of the mother, birth partner, and baby, as well as their physical well-being. The philosophy and techniques can be applied to any birth setting whether it be at home, in the hospital, or at a birthing center. The techniques can also be used outside of birthing to help with managing stress and anxiety.
Our society has adopted a "medical model" of childbirth that is laced with fear. As a result, many women have anxiety and fear regarding pregnancy and childbirth. In reality, pregnancy and childbirth is a natural process that does not need to be feared. Fear causes tension in the body and prevents the body from birthing the way nature intended.
HypnoBirthing® is a program consisting of deep relaxation, self-hypnosis, special breathing techniques, visualizations, and education. This program also involves learning how to release fears (both related and non-related to childbirth). All of these techniques will help you learn how to deeply relax so that you, your birth companion, and baby can experience a safe, calm, loving, and and peaceful birth just the way nature intended.
All courses are taught in Columbia, MD. The course is designed for both the mom and her birth companion and consists of five 2.5 to 3-hour classes. The cost of the course includes 15 hours of class time, a textbook, an audio CD (to practice relaxation and birth rehearsal imagery), multiple handouts neatly organized in a folder, and The Rainbow Relaxation CD for home practice.
